Consequence and Free Will

If death is inevitable, it might seem like nothing we do truly matters. But the opposite is actually true. Because we all die, what we choose to do while we’re alive becomes the only thing that can matter. The way we treat others, the values we live by, and the consequences we accept—these shape not just our lives, but who we are at the core. Even if nothing lasts forever, what we do here defines our meaning while we’re here.

Even in a universe that might be entirely predetermined, we still have free will. Not in the sense of changing fate, but in the deeper sense of choosing what kind of person we are. We choose how to respond. We choose what to stand for. We choose what consequences we’re willing to live with. That choice—of how we live and what we stand for—is our freedom. It’s the only freedom that truly matters.
